Students honored at the 2024 Class Day ceremony – Harvard Law School

A selection of Harvard Law students from the Class of 2024 were recognized for their contributions during the Class Day ceremony on May 22. They were honored for outstanding leadership, citizenship, compassion, and dedication to their studies and the profession.

Yvonne L. Smith Award

Bolatito “Tito” Morolake Adetula is the inaugural winner of the Yvonne L. Smith Award, a new student award that honors Yvonne Smith, who retired last year after serving for 46 years at Harvard Law School, including 35 years as the administrative coordinator of the Board of Student Advisers. This award recognizes a graduating student who, like Smith, has demonstrated an exemplary dedication to community, and has focused their efforts on building a more supportive, inclusive environment.

Ralph D. Gants Access to Justice Award

Arjun Gananathan ’24 is the winner of the 2024 Ralph D. Gants Access to Justice Award. He is honored for his thoughtful and empathic leadership in the Youth Advocacy and Policy Lab and the Criminal Justice Institute, where he has displayed unwavering commitment to examining and interrogating the criminal legal system through a lens of racial equity.

David A. Grossman Exemplary Clinical Student Award

David Paul ’24 is the recipient of the 2024 David A. Grossman Exemplary Clinical Student Award. Paul is honored for his exceptional achievements in the Veterans Law and Disability Benefits Clinic of the Legal Services Center (LSC) and the Criminal Prosecution Clinic.

Andrew L. Kaufman Pro Bono Service Award

Bridget Pranzatelli ’24 is the recipient of the 2024 Andrew L. Kaufman Pro Bono Service Award. She is recognized for her outstanding contributions to the Crimmigration Clinic, leadership in Harvard Defenders, and her extraordinary commitment to pro bono service.

The Frank S. Righeimer Jr. Prize for Student Citizenship

Brenna Phillips ’24 has been awarded the 2024 Righeimer Prize, an honor that celebrates a graduating student in recognition of exceptional citizenship within the Harvard Law School community. Phillips, who took part in myriad extracurricular activities and a range of academic endeavors during her time at Harvard Law School, was recognized for her involvement in student organizations, community service groups, and her tireless efforts on behalf of the Harvard Law community.

Kristin P. Muniz Memorial Award

Kamille Bernard ’24 and Lea Kayali ’24 are the recipients of the 2024 Kristin P. Muniz Memorial Award, bestowed in memory of the beloved Criminal Justice Institute (CJI) senior clinical instructor to honor students who exemplify her commitment to justice and superb client-centered representation.

William J. Stuntz Memorial Award for Justice, Human Dignity, and Compassion

Morgan Carmen ’24 was named the winner of the 2024 William J. Stuntz Memorial Award for Justice, Human Dignity, and Compassion. The Stuntz Award recognizes a graduating student who has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to those principles while at Harvard Law School.

The David Westfall Memorial Award

Sydney Veatch ’24 is the recipient of this year’s Westfall Memorial Award, which recognizes a student or students with outstanding contributions to creating community within their first-year section and class. The award is named after the late Professor David Westfall ’50, who taught at Harvard Law School for more than 50 years and served as an inaugural faculty leader for a first-year section. Veatch was recognized by numerous nominators for going above and beyond to foster an environment of support, collaboration, and goodwill among her classmates in Section 3.

This year, fourteen students were honored with The Dean’s Awards for Community Leadership, which recognize graduates who contribute time and energy to making the Harvard Law School community a better place through involvement in student organizations and journals, community service groups, clinics, and through individual efforts. This year’s recipients are:
