What transpires when two diametrically opposed interests sit down in a area alongside one another to go over their positions? Commonly, a whole lot of preventing and arguing, and accusations thrown all around without having much remaining solved at the stop of all that.

Choose the scenario of Spray Lake Sawmills and conservation and activist groups like Get a Stand Kananaskis (Job) and Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS), which we have noted on in this week’s paper. Process and CPAWS and other groups have been contacting for community consultations with Spray Lake Sawmills and the Alberta governing administration to focus on the potential of the Highwood and West Bragg Creek forests slated for the axe. Even so, that contact has been both dismissed or experienced equally functions passing the buck to the other about who is accountable for such consultations. Customarily, it has been the organizations which are considered accountable for these consultations. It is legitimate of each individual municipality Great West Media’s covers in the region– corporations are supposed to be on stage for this kind of consultations and report again to the govt when all those consultations are total.

The province, nevertheless, has the capability to mandate consultation, if it so chooses, when it arrives to logging, mining, highway development, dam development or any other place which falls under the Crown. The fact the Alberta governing administration has declined to do so in these conditions speaks volumes about its intentions.

With SLS declining to seek advice from, and the Alberta government not mandating that they do, most likely there will be none, regardless of the phone calls from these wishing to help you save those hectares from the impending clearcut.

From an additional standpoint, SLS and the governing administration are extremely aware there are numerous opposed to logging in Highwood and West Bragg Creek, and this kind of consultations would only very likely provide just one purpose– to delay the logging and allow opposition forces to organize and galvanize general public guidance to oppose the cutting.

They do not would like that so no consultations.

For individuals opposed to logging these spots, it appears both SLS and the Alberta governing administration have their minds set on carrying on despite community opposition. And if these opposition forces want to have their voices listened to, they are heading to have to locate a further way.
